Description
ENGLAND, James I, Stuart, 6th bust, mm Trefoil (1624), Plumes over shield, Silver Shilling, 6.00g, 30mm, 5h, S.2669----
The plumes on the reverse of the coin are scarce, and was intended to indicate that the coin had been struck from silver from the mines of Wales (Morreison, 1907). Really sharp details on the reverse of this coin and some nice gold tones which I have tried to capture in the pictures. There is an old test mark on the obverse side which has been toned over.
Other Examples:
Below I have listed other examples I have found on the internet. There are other James I shillings which have sold with the plume over the shield which I have not located easily (clearly), and a handful which can be found but have the Lis or Thistle mintmark. Those listed below have the Trefoil mintmark, like this coin listed for sale.
