    Description

Here is a very large, lovely perfume bottle made in the 1920s or 1930s.  It is Rapsodie eau de toilette, made by Parfums Raffy.  This is the largest size it came in: a whopping 16 fluid ounces!  It is about 8.5 inches tall, about 5.75 inches wide, and about 1.5 inches thick from front to back.
The shell-shaped bottle is remarkable for its beautiful opalescent glass stopper, which reflects flashy pink and yellow colors and a shimmering milky blue.  The stopper is entirely glass, with no plastic parts anywhere.  Although opalescent glass was not uncommon for decorative perfume bottles that were sold empty, it was fairly unusual for opalescent glass to be used on commercial fragrance bottles (bottles that were sold with a particular brand of perfume already in them). Plus, not every bottle of Rapsodie had a stopper like this.  The other version of the Rapsodie bottle made by Raffy has the exact same shell shape, but the green stopper is a different design, and not opalescent.
The bottom of the bottle is embossed with the word "FRANCE."  The label on the front is damaged but still legible with the words "EAU DE TOILETTE RAPSODIE RAFFY PARIS."
This is an estate find that was about half full when I bought it.  I do not know if the fragrance in the bottle is the original Rapsodie eau de toilette, as if I've never smelled Rapsodie before and I would not be able to recognize it or authenticate it.  However, this does smell like a very old vintage fragrance, not a modern one.  Like most fragrances that are close to 100 years old, the top notes have a sharp alcohol smell when wet, but the sharpness quickly goes away and the fragrance then turns into the sweet type of linear floral scent that was typical of many other scents I've tried from the early 1900s.  Due to its age, it may not be wearable by your standards, but if you are somebody who appreciates very old fragrances and their history, this one is lovely and certainly worth a sniff, even if you choose not to wear it.
The bottle and the upper edge of the stopper have some scratches, which I've tried to show in photographs.  On the front of the bottle, there is also a black speck embedded in one of the scratches that I am not able to clean off.  There are also a few small air bubbles that formed in the molten glass during the manufacturing process.  The two biggest ones are roughly teardrop-shaped and about 1/4 of an inch long.  Still, the bottle displays beautifully, and your gaze will be drawn to the luminous stopper more than to any other part of the bottle.  Please view all 12 photos attached to this listing, and if you need more, please ask.
The stopper fits well, but I still take extra precautions to ensure it stays in place before I mail this to the buyer.  This package will be sent by ground, so please allow additional time for delivery.
