Finally holding that wedding? Rare Vintage Large 3-Tier Chinese Wedding (Food) Basket Wicker Rataan Excellent Condition, Brueners Price Label Intact.
This is an almost new Chinese Wedding Basket handed down to me in 2012. In dry storage since then.
It was purchased in 1971 at a west coast Brueners Furniture Store. Price tag still present at 0 (adjusted for inflation 2020 = ,679.00). Customs and manufacturer’s tags still present.
This is a one of a kind Vintage Wedding Basket in perfect condition with original stain and lacquer and no chips or worn places on the bas relief carvings. One area on the bottom of the first tier had some flaking lacquer, probably due to some moisture, which was refinished and looks like new. Very lightweight but sturdy.
Its coloring is quite different than any of the other 10 or so Maitland-Smith Wedding Baskets I have seen in recent months, with a brighter look exterior and true Bombay Red (mahogany red but deeper) for accents.
One of the very nice things about this piece is that you know its history and that gives it a sense of belonging and warmth, in addition to style.
